My main research activities focus on the investigation of the molecular mechanisms underlying ageing and the identification of molecular pathways that connect ageing and neurodegeneration. Emphasis is given to examining the effects of ageing on physiological autophagic mechanisms, as well as, the link between autophagy and molecular pathways implicated in ageing and age-associated susceptibility to disease. For this purpose, the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is used as a model organism.
